Even the most effective solvent should be disregarded if it solves the impurity but at the same time desiccates the leather, dissolves the tanning matter, the dressing, causes discolourations or proves harmful to health and the environment. At the end of the article, the authors review the problems that arise in the course of the cleaning of pelts, parchments, leathers tanned with alum, vegetable and fatty tanning matters, furs, gilded and painted leathers and art objects combined with metal or textile, and enlist the possible solutions. They give the recipe of a few cleaning mixtures but also call attention that they are not suitable for every leather type, their composition should be modified according to the individual art objects. TÁRLÓKLÍMA ÉS SZILIKAGÉL A LÉGNEDVESSÉG SZABÁLYOZÁSA KIÁLLÍTÁSI TÁRLÓKBAN Járó Márta A levegő relatív páratartalmára, annak változásaira érzékeny műtárgyak kiállításánál, ha maga a kiállítóterem nem párastabilizált, vagy a beállított relatív légnedvesség-érték eltér a tárgy által megkívánttól, a tárlón belül kell a megfelelő pára- tartalmat beállítani és állandó értéken tartani. A Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum időszakos kiállításain használatos, fémből és üvegből készült tárlók három fő kategóriába sorolhatók szigetelés szempontjából: jól szigetelt, kevésbé jól szigetelt és rosszul szigetelt vitrinek. A szigeteltség fokától függ a külső tér és a tárló beltere közötti légcsere, és ez szabja meg elsősorban, hogy milyen módon lehet stabilizálni a tárlóban a kívánt relatív páratartalom-értéket egy-egy rövidebb ideig tartó kiállítás alkalmával. Leggyakrabban egy pufferanyag-fajta, a szilikagél egyik módosított változata, az Art-Sorb biztosítja az állandó relatív légnedvességet a vitrinekben, de a kiállítás időtartamától függően más módszerek is számításba jöhetnek. Nagyon fontos a beállítani kívánt relatív páratartalom-érték körültekintő megválasztása, amely nem minden esetben azonos az adott tárgyfajta konzerválásához javasolt, optimális értékkel. CLIMATE OF SHOWCASES AND SILICA GEL Controlling of humidity in the showcases Márta Járó At showing of art objects which are sensitive to relative humidity (RH) of the air in the case when the room is not humidity stabilized or when the established RH is different from the necessary, the right humidity should be set and kept on a stabilised value inside the showcases. The showcases made of glass and metal used at the exhibitions in the Hungarian National Museum can be classified into three main groups from the point of view of insulation: well insulated, less well insulated, and improperly insulated ones. The ventilation between the external and internal space of showcase depends on the grade of insulation, and it determines how can be stabilized the ideal RH in case of exhibitions lasting for just a short time. Most often a kind of buffering material, a modified version of silica gel “Art - Sorb" insures the constant relative humidity in showcases, but other methods has to be taken into consideration depending on the length of exhibitions. The most important task is to find the way of the right selection and setting of RH-value which is not the same in every case as the optimal value proposed for the conservation of a special type of object. 183
