As a summary of the experiments carried out on the coffin with Gore-tex we could say that with adequate circumspection17 the method can be applied for removing water stains from the surfaces of painted wooden objects, but we do not suggest the repeated application of the process. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT We owe our thanks to Katalin Görbe (Hungarian University of Fine Arts), who called our attention using Gore-tex in paper restoration, as well as to Zsuzsa Tóth and Pál Horváth (National Széchényi Library) who provided the Gore-tex vlies for us. Water, which has been bound this way acts like liquid water so all water soluble substances can swell or dissolve. For this reason in paper conservation water soluble paints are fixed first.
