Their flourishing time may have been in the 1700s and 1800s. In that period puppets served principally for entertainment of adults, consequently they were shaped with. (3) Their basic materials were wax, wood, terracotta or biscuit, and were always dressed according to the latest fashion. As small size images, they could transport the latest creations of fashion to everywhere. Up to the end of the 18th century, only these figures were in use, but because of the excessively fast changes in fashion, they were replaced by simplier and cheaper fashion magazines, illustrated with engravings. In Paris, this kind of fashion magazines have been regularly appearing since 1768. They are printed in London since 1785, with coloured engravings. These latters the first fashion magazines in the real sense of the word. (4) 152
