THE RESTORATION OF A 19TH CENTURY MINIATURE PAINTED ON IVORY Abstract: This article is devoted to a rarely discussed, special type of artefact that is often composed of several raw materials. It defines the genre of painting under discussion and also offers a brief historic review. Material properties of ivory as a support, as well as its substitutes used in restoration arc discussed. This general review is followed by the description of a 19th century lady’s portrait painted on ivory and kept in a leather ease.
