RESTORATION OF A FLAG WITH DOUBLE-SIDED PAINTING Abstracts: The author restored the oldest piece of the flag-collection of the Modern Historical Museum of the Hungarian National Museum. The double-sided, oil-painted, simple sheet flag made of brocade had already been restored in 1957 with the method used then: they sewed it between nets. They didn’t deal with the painted part, moreover it suffered different kinds of damage during the procedure. The author fixed the flaking-off paint-pieces, and took attention in keeping the picture in the middle of the support linen, according to the cross-section of the picture. The restorer adopted the methods used by the painting- restorers according to the peculiarities of the flag. During the restoration-conservation, the author used natural materials and the modern BEVA-mixture.
