THE DAMAGING EFFECTS OF CELLULOSE-NITRATE USAGE ON WORKS OF ART

Abstracts: The author lists the available cellulose derivatives by their features, introduces their fields of usage in protection on works of art and on the exhibition technics in use up until now.

During the destruction and transformation of the cellulose nitrate, the harmful material becomes nitric acid. The author describes two cases happened with the models of the Public Transport Museum, Budapest where harmful effects occurred thereby effecting the material and environment of the works of art.

He also reviews the opinions of international and Hungarian experts.
