SYNTHETIC POLYMERS IN ADHESIVE TREATMENTS OF TEXTILES

Abstracts: Conserving and consolidating tattered, fragile, fissured textiles and deteriorated threads of works of art, a restorer has the choice of using a variety of synthetic materials.

The threads impregnated with adhesive or textiles treated with adhesive methods cause a lot of problems from the view points of aesthetics and conservation; the thread gets dirty very easily, becomes hard and dark, some time after being glued, gets wavy, pulls apart or becomes unremovable. The study introduces the characteristics of synthetic materials in adhesive techniques for of textiles and provides the explanations of the above-mentioned manifestations.
