A gyertyatartó ma is használati tárgy, ezért a restaurálás során, az esztétikai megjelenésen kivül szem elótt kellett tartani azt is, hogy mindennapi igénybevételnek lesz kitéve .

The restoration of a wooden candlestick with argentine inlay- Summary The reader is first introduced in the manufacture process of the candlestick made of oak-wood, embedded in palisander veneer, ornamented with argentine inlay, then a description of the restoration process is reported on. The glue fixing the segments constituting the stay-plate of the object, has loosened in course of time, the wooden matter shrinkened, and, as a result of this, the veneering and the metal inlays slackened. The metal stripes climbing spirally up the stem were deformed, broken, or even lost. In course of the restoration, the difference in the circumferences of the shrinked body and the original object represented a serious problem, because the less deteriorated veneer and the shrink-free metal could not be fit.

Considering several possibilities, the restorer chose a compromise; as the dimension of the basic body has already accomodated to the circumstances of the environment, the dimensions of the encrustment were diminished accordingly. Minor pieces of the veneer and the metal inlays were cut to
