Iparművészeti tárgyak restaurálásáról - Scheinring József: 19. századi fiókos írókomód restaurálása

(non-ionic detergent) , then removed the polishing ink by de- naturated alcohol. The frontpiece of the removable cabinet decorated by a black line print was cleaned by a solvent mixture composed of 1 part of dimethyl formamide, 3 parts of ethyl acetate and 3 parts of dioxane. Brass mounts were cleaned by chromic acid mordant, the iron fittings were cleaned mechanically and treated by arms oil. The layers of overpaint were removed mechanically. For the gluing of the commode Araldite AY 103 was applied. The alignment of the two-plane warping at the front of the table- leaf proved to a be a complicated process: the author decided to make cuts at the bottom of the board and break the stressed parts of the wood, and pulled it back into its original state. The board was then stabilized by impregnating it with casting resin (Titeron polyesther without a filler). The veneers were fixed by ironing, replacement for the missing veneers were stuck by UHU-Plus Endfest 300 epoxy resin. The wooden parts were completed by Araldit SV 427 epoxy resin. During cleaning it turned out that the original walnut veneer had been stained a dark hue because the maker of the bureau used dead (funkv) veneer for the top and the two sides and assembled different kinds of veneer. The restorer stained these areas to match the walnut root hue of the front of the bureau. For the polishing of the walnut veneers a 6 per cent orange shellac, for the maple and ebony veneers a 6 per cent white shellac was used. The missing grounding of the caryatids decorating the commode were completed by gluey chalk refined by kaolin and made elastic by some gelatine. After drying the surface was treated by a 50% solution of alcohol and was gilded by gold leaf and burnished by agate. The commode had to be supplied with new legs since the bun-feet turned out to be non-authentic. The new legs were prepared after analogies. The missing brass mounts were made from Diamant Kytte after taking silicone negatives of the existing ones as they had been identical. Finally the unpolished surfaces were brushed over by Xylamon. 169
