peroxide. This was followed by washing it over with water and neutralizing the paper by barium hydroxide. After cleaning the cracked sphere was stuck by a 5% solution of rabbit skin glue using a tentering frame; where it was necessary, the missing base was replaced by a mixture of rabbit skin glue and Bolognese chalk in the proportion of 1 to 2. The sticking back of the segments took place in conformity with the original method, namely by gluey starch. The dry and warped timber was moistened in a vapour chamber using the vapour of saturated NaCl solution. For drying a drying press was employed. A 5% solutation of rabbit skin glue was used for the sticking of the wooden structure. The missing fragments of the calendar frame were replaced by a mass of paper pulp, Bolognese chalk and glue taken in the proportion of 3:1:1. Gaps in the turned supporting columns were completed by a mixture of Eporezit FM 20 epoxy resin (a Hungarian product) and sawdust in the proportion of 1 to 2. The paint layer on the celestial globe was very worn and incomplete. Some damaged details were not completed as appropriate analogies were not available; the retouch of the reconstructed areas was done by punching. After retouching it the globe was provided with a matt varnish (Matt Varnish, Rowney); the wooden construction was coated by wax (80 g bleached wax, 15 g colophony and 400 g turpentine oil) . Replacements for the missing compass and clock framing were prepared using analogies. List of figures 1-2-3-4. The celestial globe before cleaning 4-5-7-8. The celestial globe after restoration 116
