Summary

The paper material of the newspaper collections preserved in Hungary is in general badly damaged. The newspaper texts of the Hungarian national collection are saved by microfilming in the workshops of the Országos Széchényi Könyvtár (National Széchényi Library). It is necessary, however, to preserve the paper material of the newspapers as well, especially that of the old ones. The author outlines the causes of the deterioration and her experiments in the Research Institute of the Paper Industry. The method employed for preserving and restoring the newspaper material was worked out by taking into consideration the experimental results. The first phases correspond to the processes applied to other paper stuffs (choice of the employable method of handling, disinfection, taking apart the pages, cleaning, whitening if necessary). The acid neutralization must be always carried out. The repairing and reinforcing of the paper is done by lamination but the adoption of the paper splitting is also planned. Finally the author acquaints with a Spanish invention called "Vinyector", an equipment for mechanizing the preservation and restoration of archivalia and library material. With its application the productivity could be raised to its hundredfold compared with the manual work.

Zusammenfassung

Der Papierstoff von den in Ungarn aufbewahrten Zeitungssammlungen ist zum grössten Teil von einer ziemlich schlechten Qualität und stark beschädigt.

In der Werkstatt der Országos Széchényi Könyvtár (Landesbibliothek Széchényi) werden die Zeitungstexte für die ungarische Nationalsammlung durch Mikrofilmaufnahmen gerettet. Aber auch die Rettung des Papierstoffes - besonders bei alten Zeitungen - ist notwendig. Im Artikel werden die Gründe der Beschädigung dargelegt und auch die in der Forschungsinstitut für Papierindustrie durchge- führte Experimente. Mit Berücksichtigung dieser Versuchsergebnisse wurde die für Konservierung und Restaurierung des Zeitungsstoffes verwendete Methode ausgearbeitet.

Die ersten Phasen der Arbeit stimmen mit den bei anderen Papierstoffen angewandten Methoden überein (Auswahl der zu verwendenden Behandlungsart, eventuelle Desinfizierung, Zerlegung in Blätter, Reinigung, eventuelle Bleichung).
