INTRODUCTION 35 it is significant to a certain extent. Therefore we think that these should not be ignored by the editor. We used the font Caslon when printing the text since it is the closest to the font of the printed volumes of the Notitia. Bibliography and indexes There are two different types of bibliography in the volume. The first one is the works cited (also) by Bél. We believe this is useful to sort them separately since it makes it apparent with what materials Bél worked on his masterpiece. However it is important to mention that most of the books in this list were equally used by us when writing our text critical and explanatory notes. Consequently it is not only Bél’s bibliography but also the editors’. The second list consists of the sources not used by Bél, or published after his death and also of the reference literature. The indexes can be found at the end of the volume. There are separate indexes for the proper names and for the vast number of geographical names. We give more detailed information about the indexes, their structure and their use at the beginning of each of them.
