Owing to the lack of space and difficulties in heating there is no research in the winter months, but from May to October the archival material is at disposal on the previously appointed workdays. Archivist: János SZÁSZ The Unitarian Church appeared first in Hungary in the sixteenth century, its congregations came to being in the parts of the Great Plain bordering on Transylvania and in Baranya county. However, the counter-reformation of the late seventeenth century annihilated them. Continuous Unitarian life begun in the second half of the nineteenth century in Hungary. In 1953 the Unitarian Church organized a "collection of data", which became an archives in 1961. On the request of the Church, the Minister of Culture declared it a special archives in 1972. Its task is to collect, arrange and publish the documents of the Unitarian organizations, congregations and movements of the country. Besides the archives considers it as a duty to gather the written documents on the Unitarian movements of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and to register their data, found in the various public collections. * The archival material totals 30 running metres. The basic material is made up by the records in connection to church government, such as those of the governing council (1920-1940), the representative council (1944-1947), then those of the vicarial office (from 1947) and the episcopal office (from 1968). Also the journals, registers, general and financial records of several Unitarian congregations (Budapest, Transdanubia, Dunapataj, Duna-Tisza region, Hódmezővásárhely, Debrecen, Füzesgyarmat, etc.) are in archival custody.
