(Archives of the Evangelical /Lutheran/ Church) - Evangélikus Országos Levéltár (Evangelical National Archives)
professional standard and the selfless diligence of Professor Elemér MÁLYUSZ, having directed the repository from 1947 to the end of 1969. Between 1970 and 1974 it was directed by the undersigned. The archives are maintained by the highest organ of the autonomy of the Hungarian Evangelical Church, the National Church. In the framework of the Evangelical Council of Collections it represents the evangelical archival profession of Hungary. * The archival material totals 750 running metres. The oldest piece dates from 1379. There are 13 charters before Mohács. The Archivum Generális Ecclesiae (1379-1912) is a collection, made up partly of the material of the highest organ of the Evangelical Church (universal church assemblies, universal church and school inspector, etc.), partly of the gathering of persons (the minister, then antiquarian György RIBAY 17541812, the minister József SCHULEK 1760-1813, the minister Theofil GAMAUF 1772-1841, the collector Miklós JANKOVICH 1773-1846, etc.). The registry of the Universal Evangelical Church of Hungary comprises the synodal acts, journals of assemblies, presbiteries and commissions, records of the chief notary, school inspector and the general bureau of the universal church from 1864 up to our day. The archives preserve the records of the extinct mountain region (16101952), Transdanubian (1599-1952) and Tibiscan (1570-1952) church districts, those of the Békés (1711-1952), Győr (1703-1952), Kemenesalja (1788-1952), ancient Pest county (1707-1924), Tolna-Baranya-Somogy (1737-1952) and Veszprém (1647-1962) deaneries and of the Pest parish (1787-1953). Also the papers of the extinct evangelical institutions and associations (Evangelical Orphans Institute, Sopron Theological Faculty, Miskolc Academy of Law, Budapest Evangelical Public School, National Luther League, Hungarian Luther Association, etc.) are preserved in the archives. Important personal bequests are left by the cultural historian Győző BRUCKNER (1877-1962), the minister and historian András FABÓ (18101874), the church historian and bishop Sándor KOVÁCS (1869-1942), the church historian Sándor PAYR (1861-1938), the cultural historian Béla RADVÁNSZKY (1849-1906), the professor of theology and bishop Sándor RAFFAY (1866-1947), the writer and bishop József SZÉKÁCS (18091876) and the historian Mihály ZSILINSZKY (1838-1925). In addition there is considerable manuscript material.
