A Győri Székeskáptalan Levéltára (Győr Cathedral Chapter Archives)
The archives preserve the eighteenth and nineteenth century records of the Gyôr seminary which have partly personal (lists of pupils, qualifications), partly economic character (accounts, management of funds). A few nineteenth to twentieth century bundles of the Priests' Pension Institute were mixed up with this material. * Research is possible from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays. Researchers may use the material of the Diocesan Library as well. Dr. Péter BALÁZS A GYŐRI SZÉKESKÁPTALAN LEVÉLTÁRA (GYÖR CATHEDRAL CHAPTER ARCHIVES) 9002 GYŐR, Káptalandomb 1. (Pf. 60.) Tel. 120-87. Archivist: Lajos HORVÁTH Little is known of archival history prior to Mohács, but a significant archival material is preserved from these centuries. In 1594 the chapter fled to Sopron before the Turks, returning only in 1601. Probably it happened during the flight that records of episcopal provenance were mixed with the capitular ones, and they remained here for good. Between 1874 and 1889 the archives have been arranged by the canon Ferenc EBENHÖCK, whose finding aids are still a great help to research. The archival material totals 62 running metres. The most ancient record dates from 1228, there are 252 charters prior to Mohács. The largest coherent unit is the so-called capitular basic material, containing mixed records on the chapter from the thirteenth to the nineteenth centuries. After Ebenhöch's arrangement were added the personal papers of the canons (nominations, diaries, etc.), the journals of the capitular sessions between 1798 and 1833 and the statues and constitutions from 1689. The so-called dietal records are valuable from the point of view of general history, especially between 1840 and 1848, when the delegates of the chapter played an important role in the diet. The archives preserve also the journal of the Bácsa "Predial" nobles of the chapter between 1712 and 1783.
