Dr. Péter Balázs: Guide to the archives of Hungary (Budapest, 1976)

Tolna Megyei Levéltár (Tolna County Archives)

Levéltári Szemle. These papers describe the history of the Archives, the experiences in the arrangement of records, the war damages of the repository and the gathering of the archives of the great landowning families after World War II. Some archival publications help the research in our material: the list of manuscript maps has been published, as no. 16 of the national series, in 1968, the list of archival groups A Tolna megyei Levéltár fondjainak jegyzéke as no. 17 of the national series, in 1973. Besides basic inventories, stackroom lists and some manuscript finding aids are accessible to research. From 1968 we have a chance to publish selfstanding volumes of studies. The first volume of the series Tanulmányok Tolna megye történetéből (Studies from the History of Tolna County) has been published in 1968, the seventh in 1975. These volumes of cca 40 sheet each were prepared by the Szekszárd Printing House, edited by Tolna County Archives. The first four volumes have been edited by Dr. Attila PUSKÁS, the remaining ones by János K. BALOG. The 37 studies published therein are notable contributions to local history. The authors are in part members of the archival staff, in part research workers in other fields, publishing in our volumes. In the last decades we noticed an enlarged interest in local history. We have tried to satisfy the demands. Our research room is open on five weekdays from 8.3 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Our photo laboratory is able to procure reproductions. Microfilm reading is made possible too. A help to research is given also by our special library of about 14>000 volumes. The majority of the volumes is in Latin, German and Hungarian. The readers have a bibliography of works on local history at disposal. The Archives has a self-standing room of 100 vc? ground-space and a corridor 70 m long for exhibitions. Our exhibitions are visited by 4000 to 5000 people yearly. Janos K. BALOG
