period are contained in the archival groups of the Győr Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1891-1945) and of the Győr Court of Registration. From the point of view of instruction the records of the Győr Regional Superintendence of Schools (1776-1878) are significant, as they embrace all Transdanubia, further also the archival groups of the Royal Academy of Law and the Magyaróvár Economic Academy. Among the economic enterprises the Győr Waggon and Machine Factory and the Kühne Agricultural Machine Factory of Mosonmagyaróvár deserve mention. In the archives of the late borough Magyaróvár the borough protocols (from 1557) and the accounts of the borough Treasury (from 1682) have a considerable historical value. As to the archives of Győr Cathedral Chapter and the Pannonhalma Convent as places of authenticity mainly the former one contains most valuable records relating to the former counties Győr, Komárom, Pozsony and occasionally to other regions of Transdanubia too. The principal archival groups are contracts (from 1534), protocols of putting into possession and of testaments, records in affairs of property and the so-called special collection (letters of popes, kings, princes, scholars and artists). The Archives holds 396 charters prior to 1526, of these 7 are preserved in the archives of the city, 5 in that of the county, 20Ö in the archival group of the Győr Chapter and 184 in that of the Pannonhalma Convent, as places"of authenticity. The microfilm collection of the Archives has the national "portal" conscriptions relating to the counties Győr and Moson,further the manuscript works of Mátyás Bél from the eighteenth century on the same counties. Research is helped by comprehensive stack lists, basic inventories and contemporary finding aids.
