9. Summary

ITINERARIA REGUM ET REGINARIUM REGNI HUNGÁRIÁÉ

On the spelling of place names. All localities which are situated on the territory of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary are given in their Hungarian name. Those, on the other hand, which lay outside the kingdom, are to be found in their current German, Polish or Czech form. There are only six exceptions to this rule. In the case of those cities, which have a traditional Hungarian name, or usually are referred to by their German name in Hungarian historiography, these versions have been adopted. Thus, the reader will find Bécs instead of Wien, Bécsújhely instead of Wiener Neustadt, Boroszló instead of Wroclaw, Brünn instead of Brno, Prága instead of Praha, and Olmütz instead of Olomouc. Needless to say, all place names mentioned in the text and the notes can be found in the index, together with their current official name.

In the index the place names are accompanied by the year and month of royal presence there. Thus a sort of additional database is formed: those interested can easily calculate both the number of occasions the king and his entourage, or his army, visited a given locality and the overall time they spent there.
