Buzási János: A Magyar Országos Levéltár fondjainak és állagainak jegyzéke I. kötet I-III. osztály (Budapest, 1996)
Bevezetés
The New Hungarian Central Archives kept records of persons playing important public roles after 1945 in the management group XXXI. (Families and persons). The section P contains similar records from the Middle Ages till recent years, but in a volume significantly surpassing the management group XXXI. Thus the really personal fonds were transferred from the management group XXXI. to the Section P, and those which after closer investigation proved to be official or partly official records of agencies, were put in the competent agency, so this management group was cancelled. As to the management group XXXII. (Collections) we here to find an opportunity to examine certain questions, especially the principle differences between the collections created at the agencies and at the archives, and to determine the tasks after examination. This summary of records is divided according to Departments keeping the records which renders practical orientation easier for researchers. According to this: Department I. Sections A —I and A — O 894 fonds 15358.32 m Department II. Section K 357 fonds 8296.27 m Department III. Sections P—V 2520 fonds 3972.82 m and Department 245155 pes Department IV. Section Y and Management Groups XXIX—XXX. and XXXII. 911 fonds 12569.51 m Department V Management Groups XVII —XX., XXVI—XXVIII. and XXXII—XXXIII. 299 fonds 9493.17 m Department VI. Management Groups XVII., XIX., XXVI—XXVIII. and XXXII. 143 fonds 10410.19 m Department VII. Section M 187 fonds 3986.97 m Department VIII. Section X 7786 fonds 52416634 m Secretariat of Section Y and Management Group Director General XXXIV. 4 fonds 225.42 m TOTAL: 13103 fonds 64312.67 m and 52661789 pes. Similarly to the former one, this summary of records gives the following information and data about archival material: reference code of archive unit, nomination (title), age (inclusive years) and extent in linear metres (m) or in pieces (pes). The reference code column contains reference codes of fonds or sub-fonds. In several sections and management groups figures of fonds and subfonds do not follow each other in sequence. The reason for this can equally be increase, rearrangement or regrouping in the Archives. Missing figures are also due to reorganization, besides this to destruction, regrouping or transfer of records between sections/management groups. In case of copies (microfilms, photocopies), if the original is not kept in the National Archives of Hungary the original reference code — if it is known — is indicated in brackets in the title column. The years indicated in brackets in the age (inclusive years) columns indicate years of records before the establishment of record creating agency or unit, or after its termination. In case of personal records we do not use this method. Similarly, in case of record units higher than fonds only the earliest and latest years are indicated without brackets. Extent is given in general in metres, but in case of certain sections in pieces. Linear metre of records is always a decimal fraction, piece number is an integer. One piece in section Q means one charter, in Section U one photo or photocopy, in Section V one seal, in section X one frame of microfilm. In section X the letter R in brackets after the piece number means that only a part of the fonds or
