REVIEW The purpose of this volume is to give information on the microfilm collection kept in the National Archives. The collection includes all those fonds and divisions that are wholly and completely shot and those from which only parts have been filmed but, due to their character, they may count upon interest, too. Microfilms made from the matériái of sections X and Y (Film library and National Archivál archive) have been completely omitted because on the one hand they are uninteresting for the historical recearch, on the other hand they have primarily been made for internál use. In this volume the film library is described in ist condition of Ist January 1982. Its condition of Ist January 1972 is reflected in the thematic summary inventory entitled: „Microfilms on the documents of the National Archives in the film library" (Archivál summary inventories 1/13 Budapest, 1972) by Mária Szent Györgyi. During the ten years that have passed since that time the number of microfilms of similar origin kept in the stock of the film library has increased by more than 80 per cent. Due to the great enrichment of the collection the reference books published by us become out of date within 8—10 years, so they have to be rewritten by Mária Szent Györgyi has been inserted in this volume with somé smaller alterations and somé of such divisions that were shot before 1972 and, for certain reasons, were omitted from the former summary inventory, have alsó been entered in inventory. This volume, according to ist character of archivál summary inventory, gives the titles of the archivál fonds and divisions as well as the year concerned and the length of the documents on microfilm. Efforts were made to illustrate the structure and system of the documents in each case. The divisions on microfilms are presented in the alphabetical order of the sections and within them the order of basic units is valid that is given in the National Archives' register of fonds and divisions (2nd edition, 1974) except section „P", where the basis is the alphabet of the basic units. With the typography we tried to follow the typography developed in the above mentioned register of fonds and divisions, consequently the titles of different forms mean different levels. The titles of certain sections (fond main groups) are composed with spaced-out type and written with capital letters. The archivál levél (levél of fond-groups) is written with capital letters and is twice underlined. Those once uflderlined titles written with capital letters mean fond-level, while titles without underlining mean divisions (by chance levels under divisions). In those cases when the connection between (or separation of) certain title groups was inexpressible with the applied typing method, a hyphen was used. This mark refers to the levél of the separation. The item divided with mark „=" does not belong to the previous archives, the item divided with mark „—" does not belong to the previous fond. If there is a letter „R " by the title of the division or fond, the film does not contain the complete document. In the line under the title of the fond or division on the left can be found the serial number of the film library (e. g. X 8768), in the middle there is the year concerned and on the right the inventory classification number can be found (e. g. A 39). In the next line there is the filming number on the left while on the right the underlined film-box number is given. The film-box numbers of certain parts within the divisions are alsó put down on the right — in this case without underlining. If there can be found the films of more divisions (smaller units) on the roll, the distribution of the roll is indicated by the number of the division next to the box number (e. g. 23182/6). A detailed film catalogue has been made on microfilms when they were registered. Documents which can be found in concrete rolls (boxes) are defined. This film catalogue can provide detailed data on the documents on microfilm. The more profound availabe references to the cognition of documents are listed in the Hungárián introductory. The present thematic summary inventory can sérve as a manuál-for those, too, who would like to order prints of certain parts of the National Archives' documents or would like to borrow the films. The same regulations apply to copying the films, research, lending as to the application of the originál documents.
