Material and methods Sampling areas The three sampling areas (Nyírőlapos-Nyárijárás, Pentezug: Kineses and Polturás swamps and Nagyiván: Nagy-Darvas swamp) were chosen in order to cover the core areas of the Hortobágy National Park (HNP) with original, natural vegetation. Sampling sites in small wetlands The sampling sites (altogether 21 Nyírőlapos: 1-7, Pentezug: 8-15, Nagyiván: 16-21) were established in the open and vegetated parts of the astatic and semistatic water-bodies.
