A special Supplement to the 78. Volume of the "Állattani Közlemények" (Zoological Communications) has been published, commemorating the 100. anniversary of the Zoological Section of the Hungarian Biological Society. It was founded in November, 1891, and, accordingly, a Centenary Meeting was held on the 6th of November, 1991. The Supplement volume contains the papers presented at the Meeting, together with some additional documents. Contents: K. Dózsa-Farkas: Welcoming words Cs. Horváth & Z. The main part of the book is a list of all the 821 lectures held up to now at the meetings of the Zoological Section. Date and exact location of publication in the "Állattani Közlemények" is also referred to. The meetings of the Zoological Section have always been visited by the greatest Hungarian zoologists, so the volume gives a unique cross-section of the development of Hungarian zoology in the past one-hundred years. The text is accompanied by arc twenty glossy photo plates, which show hitherto unpublished pictures from the life of the Section and of the expeditions of Lajos Bíró and Zoltán Kaszab, about the building of the Zoological Dept, Hung. Nat. Hist. Museum, burnt in 1956, and, in addition, a complete tableau of the portraits of the officers (presidents, vice presidents and secretaries) of the Zoological Section. The special Supplement to the 78. Volume of the "Állattani Közlemények" provides an outstanding overview of the history and activity of the Zoological Section as well as a comprehensive summary of Hungarian zoology. The special Supplement Volume was edited by Z. Korsós, Secretary of the Zoological Section between 1990-1994, and by Cs. Horváth, Curator in the Department of History of Science, Hungarian Natural History Museum.
