V Helminths from small mammals in the Cergov Mountains (Western Carpathians, Czechoslovakia)* By É. MURAI & F. MÉSZÁROS (Received November 28, 1983) The paper is dedicated to the memory of Tibor WEISZ (1914—1983). ABSTRACT. As based on examination of 308 specimens of 5 insectivorous and 5 rodent species, 26 cestode, 20 nematode, and 1 acanthocephalid species are reported from the Cergov Mts (Czechoslovakia). There are a number of comprehensive faunistical - taxonomical publications dealing with the helminths of Slovakian small mammals (ERHARDOVÂ, 1958; MITUCH. 1964, 1974; PROKOPIŐ, 1959, TENORA, 1967; TENOR A & MÉSZÁROS, 1975; TENORA & MURAI, 1980). Recent data are given by MÉSZÁROS, MURAI & MATSKÁSI (1982) and MURAI, MÉSZÁROS & STOLLMANN (1983). Inspite of all these works, the helminth fauna of small mammals in the Őergov Mts had previously been unknown. MATERIAL AND METHOD We carried out helminthological examination of 10 species (5 insectivores and 5 rodents) between 1980 and 1983, on a total of 308 specimens. We found the occurrence of 26 cestode, 20 nematode and 1 acanthocephalid species (see Tables 1 and 2), The examined hosts are from the following 4 localities: 1) Hertnik, 26-28 Aug. , 1980; 2) Lenartov 10-12 Nov., 1981 and 20-23 April, 1982; 3) Livov 20-23 April, 1982; 4) Krize, 21 April, 1982 and 14 May, 1983 (map of the localities is given by MÉSZÁROS & STOLL- . MANN, 1984). Some of the host specimens were dissected in the field, the internal organs of part of the material was fixed in 5% formaldehyde solution and examined subsequently. The cestods were stained with Ehrlich's haematoxylin and aluminous carmine. The nematods were made translucent by lactophenol. REVIEW OF RECORDED SPECIES CESTODA ANOPLOCEPHALIDAE Anoplocephaloides dentata (Galli-Valerio, 1905) Hosts: Pitymys subterraneus, Microtus arvalis. - Localization: caecum and endpart of small intestine. - Intensity: 1-4 specimens. - Date of collection: in P. subterraneus, Lenartov 10-12 Nov., 1981 (1 case), Lenartov 20-23 April, 1982 (1 case); in M. arvalis, Lenartov 10-12 Nov. , 1981 (1 case). * Report No. 15 from the project "Complex parasitological studies qn small mammal populations", à co-operation between the Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, and the Institute of Experimental Biology and Ecology, Slovak Academy of Sc iences, Research Station Stare Hory. .„
