My dear Prime Minister:

I wish to take this opportunity to communicate to you my very genuine concern arising out of the fact that a senior official of the Palestine Liberation Organization is scheduled to appear before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

Without presuming to comment on whether or not such an invitation is consistent with the Middle East

policy of your government, I would suggest that the scheduled appearance is inappropriate given the involvement of the PLO in terrorist attacks and other violent activities.

I regret the fact that as prime minister, you have chosen not to exert your undoubted influence in an attempt to convince the members of the Senate Committee to reconsider this ill-advised appearance.

1 sincerely hope that if this scheduled meeting proceeds, as appears likely in the circumstances, it does not establish a precedent in terms of future invitations being extended to the PLO.
