Eugen Hossu Longin ( 1892-1965) Abstract Eugen Hossu Longin was born on December 11, 1892 in Deva Town, begin the son of Alexandru Hossu Longin. He was christened by the Greco-Chatolic priest Petru Pop from Bärcea Mare parish with the name of Eugen Lazar Marius. The godparents were his uncle Francisc Hossu and his wife Elena, born Pop of Base§ti. He attended the primary school and high school in his natal town. After graduating the Real High School from Deva, he followed the Medicine Faculty from Budapest, which he graduated in 1915 when he received the grade of sub-lieutenant in reserve. He participates in the First Word War in capacity of army medical officer, being sent on the Italian front and being held prisoner on November 7, 1918. He comes back in Transilvania just on the date of the Great National Assembly from Alba-lulia from Decembrel, 1918. On August 18, 1919 he asks to the Prefect's Office of Hunedoara County a passport in order to travel to Hungary, Austria, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia with the purpose to "obtain supplies and useful materials" necessary for practicing the profession of doctor. In the year 1920 the doctor Eugen Hossu participates to the campaign of eradication of the typhoid fever epidemic that started in Deva Town. Besides the function of doctor of Deva Town, the doctor Eugen Hossu worked from the school year 1920/1921 until 1941/1942 as substitute doctor within "Decebal" High School. In the year 1950 the houses of the doctor Eugen Hossu and of his brother, the engineer Alexandru, were nationalized, even if they, as clerks, didn't enter into the provisions of the Nationalization Decree. Due to the nationalization of Eugen Hossu's house, where the medical consulting room was arranged, he is obliged to abandon the profession of dentist.
