Abstract

Deva Branch of ASTRA was established on 24* February 1873. The first committee of the branch was formed by loan Papiu, Alexi и 01 ari и, loan Candrea, George Nicoarä, Avram Pacurahu, George Nandra and luliu Bardosi. The General meeting of ASTRA scheduled for the summer of 1873 was postponed because of an epidemic, for the following year. The meeting took place between 10-11 August 1874 gathering together the wholw intellectual elite of Flunedooara county. The meeting was opened by the president of ASTRA, Ladislau Vasile Pop. The meeting of Deva was a great public success numerous people of Hunedoara becoming members of ASTRA. During the 75 years of existence, there were organized two more meeting between 1899 aand 1932. The leaders of yhe branch were selectet among the most famous intellectuals and we mention here loan Papiu, Francisc Flossu-Longin, Virgil Olariu, loan Dobre etc
