THE VEGETATION OF SHRUBS IN MORE§TI AREA (MURE§ COUNTY) Mihaela SÄMÄRGHITAN > Muzeul de §tiintele Naturii Targu-Mure$, str. Horea nr. 24, RO-540036 Tárgu-Muref, Romania Abstract: This paper presents a description of shrub vegetation from the More^ti village area. The studied phytocenoses are situated on hilly area right side nearby the Muref Valey downstream Tárgu-Murey The identified phytocenoses were framed to Galio-Urticetea and Rhamno-Prunetea classes. Three plant associations were identified Sambucetum ebuli Felföldy 1942, Pruno spinosae-Crataegetum Soó (1927) 1931 and Pruneturn tenellae Soó 1947. For these shrubs flora several threatened and rare taxa were identified being included in the national and international red lists. Keywords: Morejti, vegetation description, shrubs vegetation, plant associations. Introduction The overall objective of this research is to contribute to a better knowledge of the flora and vegetation of this area. The specific objectives are to investigate plant communities and assess the presence of certain endangered species in these shrubs flora. Physical and geographical features The studied shrubs are located on a hilly area, on the north side of the Mure§ River Valley downstream of Targu-Mure$, at 400-480 m elevation. Geographically, a common characteristic of this region is long-peaked reliefs with abrupt out cropping, generally situated under 600 m above large valleys with low sloped sides. The most frequently found soil is forest acid brown. The area is characterized by a temperate continental climate. The yearly average temperature is 8.8 °C and the yearly average rainfalls quantity is 615.4 mm/m2. This climate is responsible for the actual floristic diversity. Along the fringe of Quercus robur woods, Prunus tenella and Prunus spinosa bushes can be met. Material and methods This research is based on field observation. The main method of study was the most frequent and appreciable of Montpellier School, the Braun-Blanquet method. In accordance with the research work performed in 2009 and 2010, three plant associations were identified in the area we studied, their phytocoenoses being framed in Galio-Urticetea M A R I S I A, XXIX-XXX, p. 51-61
