Győrfi Zalán: Un punct nou în topografia arheologică medievală a oraşului Târgu Mureş

UN PUNCT NOU ÍN TOPOGRÁFIA ARHEOLOGICÄ MEDIEVALÄ A ORA§ULUI TÄRGU MURE§. PALATUL PRIMÄRIEI GYŐRFI ZALÁN Muzeul Judetean Mure?, Tärgu Mure§ A New Point in the Medieval Archaeological Topography of Tärgu Mure§. The Mayor’s Palace The excavations were carried on a very narrow area. In the two sections we investigated two complexes from the 17th—18th centuries and a late medieval one. The medieval artifacts emerged from a perimeter of 2 m2, in a level with charcoal and yellow earth pigments, disturbed by modern interventions. The medieval material is represented almost exclusively by pottery, together with only a few fragments of iron nails, animal bones and a coin. The coin is a denary issued in the time of Mathia Corvin (1462) in Baia Mare. Except for fragments of pot-shaped stove bricks, stove bricks and a rush light, the entire material is of plates and dishes type. Out of a total number of 780 fragments, most of which atypical, not a single pot could be reconstituted. The major part of the fragments are red (or nuances of red), more or less rough. The grey ones, slightly unsmooth, are few in number, like the fine grey ones as well. The fine red ceramic is extremely well represented. The dating of the artifacts is partly ensured by the coin found in association with them, and also by the analogies discovered on the territory of the Franciscan monastery. According to these dates, the material would fit in the time sequence between the second half of the 15th century and beginning of the 16th century. The discoveries must have been part of the inventory of a nearby house. The pottery is very alike and partly even identical with the one found in the medieval site from the fortress of the city, and we could even sustain that it was produced in the same place. Somewhat surprising is the percentage of over 25% of the fine pottery. If the case statistics are not deceiving (which is highly possible), we are dealing with a house belonging to a wealthier citizen. The documents referring to the town of Tärgu Mure§ for the period under discussion are scarce and inconclusive regarding the structure of the settlement. It is hardly possible to delimit the territory of the Novum Forum oppidum at the end of the 15th century. Archaeologically speaking, we have two areas documented (see Plate I/1): the first one is in the precincts of the nowadays fortress, the former monastic centre of the M A R I S I A XXIX, p. 185-198
