Körösfői Zsolt: Un complex al culturii Sântana de Mureş – Cerneahov în curtea cetăţii din Târgu Mureş
UN COMPLEX AL CULTURII SÄNTANA DE MURE§ - CERNEAHOV ÍN CURTEA CETATII DIN TÁRGU MURE§’ KÖRÖSFŐI ZSOLT Muzeul Molnár István, Cristuru Secuiesc An Archaeological Complex of the Säntana de Mure$ - Cerneahov Culture from the Fortress from Tärgu Mure§ The Mures County Museum has been carrying on, starting from 1999 archaeological investigations in the south-eastern part of the city fortress, on the area of the former Franciscan monastery. In 2006, in the south-eastern side of a building, presently abandoned, in the western corner of the archaeological section C16, the shape of a complex could be distinguished (G16). Based on the pottery it contained, it dated the discovery in the migration period. In the first phase, only a part of the complex was uncovered (see the C16 section plan on plate 2/1) and only in 2008 it was fully researched. The chronological situation as well as its destination is hard to ascertain. From its homogenous content archaeological vestiges from the prehistory, Roman epoch and of course Säntana de Mure§ - Cernahov ones were retrieved. From around the complex, prehistoric artefacts could also be collected, but the Roman and migration period ones belonged to this complex only. G16 cut through the prehistoric stratum, fact that justifies the presence of the light brown hand decorated potsherds, with encrusted motives. As it seems from the context, the fine red coloured wheel-made pottery (in several cases painted with red), of Roman origin is associated with the grey, polished wheel-made pottery, with zigzag motives, typical for the Santana de Mure§ - Cerneahov culture. Due to the chronological proximity or even the co-existence of the two pottery types and lacking an internal stratification of the archaeological complex, there cannot be traced or defined two distinctive phases within it. For this discovery we have found analogies in the eastern area of the Santana de Mure§ - Cerneahov cultural complex, in north-western nowadays Ukraine (early period of the Wielbark culture in Volhynia), considered to be houses deepened into the ground. In northern Europe, close to the surface houses (of Germanic tradition) certain constructions deepened into the ground were found, at about 1.5-2 m below the contemporary level, which, in the absence of the hearths, were thought to be annexes. 1 Dórim sä multumim lui Drd.
