HOPE CHEST - SUMMARY -Since ancient times, the wood was the main raw material used by man to build his house or to make different objects requested by his everyday life. Beside the house and the different types of objects crafted from wood, an important category of products using this material are the furnishings. This category includes different types of chairs, tables, benches, beds, shelves, cupboards or chests. In the furnishings collection of the Reghin Ethnographic Museum the chests are very well represented: from a total of 28 chests, 25 are categorized as hope chests. Our study isn't just a summarily presentation of these pieces, it is meant to be a catalogue of these types of furnishings, containing information about their provenance, dating, work technique and material, dimensions, description and preservation state. In order to present an image as close to reality as possible about this furnishings collection in general and, about the hope chests category especially, we used also photographic reproductions of all those pieces.
