1979. SZEPTEMBER 6. MAGYAR ÚJSÁG 3. ULUAU “Ifweafl remember that our first responsibility is to fiié kids, we will be well cm our way..” This month our community can take a major step towards improving the quality of education for all of Cleveland's children. The implementation of the first major program to integrate Cleveland's public schools will be a real test of the maturity and wisdom of each of us. * / V \ ■ •• i. For the thousands of students and families who are personally involved,,it can be a period of growth — if we.provide the support and understanding that will be needed. The first, weeks of busing to a new school will undoubtedly be a time of facing the unknown and.dealing with the fears that are related to a new and untried experience. Our students will need help', and a chancé to build confidence in themselvesythe new people they meet and the new friends they make The Growth Association has urged each of our member companies to help by communicating with their employees about the importance of peaceful desegregation about making .sure that these young people are given the opportunity to get a good education, without interference or disruption from outsiders How Cleveland implements the Board of Education's desegregation program will have a great impact on the future of thousands of boys and girls who attend our schools, perhaps even on their personal well-being. It will also affect the esteem we Clevelanders have for our city, as well as the attitudes of observers elsewhere in the nation and the world If we all remember that our first responsibility is to the kids, we will be well on our way to rekindling a community spirit which will give our city new strength for the future-Greater Cleveland Growth Association 690 Union Commerce Building, Cleveland, Ohio 44115
