On the first page of this issue we show the picture of the accepted design for fhe 1956 monument. A small size picture of it is in the above insert, just to help you remember what it looks like. They say it is an original concept as you could read on page one. It so happened recently that I had to go to Seattle. I landed at the airport, also flew back from there. As it is usual one has to kill time waiting at the baggage claim, and in the other direction waiting for the airline to take the baggage. Well I, out of curiosity looked around there. Stumbled on this, stumbled on that. Then as if I had been hit in my face, my eyes opened up and I thought that I am in Budapest, on the Dózsa György ut, seeing the 1956 monument. I saw rusty iron columns lining up, getting thither towards the front end. Then I noticed that the one in Budapest uses heavier and more accurately shaped columns. My heart started beating stronger, some sort of feeling of pride seemed to be taking over. Well, checking the material used for the monuments, I came to the conclusion that Hungary has more money to put up a monument then the poor Americans. Giving it more thoughts the Hungarians waste more money then the Americans I really fell on my face when I found out that the monument in the baggage claim at the Seattle Airport has been there for a long time and people don’t seem to know what it is about, nor what it supposed to represent. I foresee the future, not so far, that the 1956 Monument, if erected will be a sour laugh of the whole nation, and the world will write of the intelligence of the Hungarians. Joseph F. With the election of the new president of Hungary the last issue was a bit hectic. In this process we left out something important.
