Volume XVI, Issue 2 hr News What is this ??? To answer the question as fast as possible, this is the memorial monument in honor of those Hungarians who stood up against the Soviet terror, who gave their blood and life for the freedom of the Hungarian people. At this point some of our readers feel faint, some are at the verge of a heart attack. Those who are capable of standing steadily on there feet would say that this is a joke, or probably that those in charge lost their mind. Those who are closer to the truth measure it up and conclude that the government in Hungary are hiding the real historical meaning of October 23, 1956. This is the way they describe it: “In the back are man size columns standing, they are rough and rusty, set loosely so one could walk between them. Moving towards the tip of the wedge they are placed more tight, becoming less rusty, forming a solid mass, finally loosing the rust, becoming shinny. The height now grew from six feet to 24 feet. This monument being erected where the Stalin statue was originally, is put together by 2006 steel columns. Their height varies but the cross section of each is ten by ten inches. With the road it will form a 56 degree angle.” So here we have 2006 columns for the anniversary date, and the 56 degree angle for the year of 1956.1 wonder what the ten inch square stands for, or the 24 feet height. May the Lord punish them while they are still alive. Where is the respect, the honor for those who made 1956? Where are the lives that were taken fighting a tyrant occupying the country of the Hungarian people? Where are those who fought the brutal communist system and were tortured to death. What have they to say about all who escaped and have to live in strange countries? Instead the play with numbers and geometry. What do they know about the suffering, the loss of family members? They are inhuman, insensitive, and I have a list so long that our little newsletter can’t handle it. There is still more. For this your kleenex isn’t enough. Get towels, big ones, to wipe your tears. Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, 44 years old, born ten years after the 1956 Uprising, said: “In 1956, in a very short moment of history, a common national will came about of a great variety. ‘There were as many experiences as there were participants in the happening. This monument will not force anybody to give up the way they established their own ‘56. The creators of this monument learned ‘56 from the school books, and they are a new generation who may express their own interpretation. In this regard it is not that much about the past, it is also about the future.” Mr. PM, I just wonder about your future. You happen to be very insensitive to your people, to the extreme sacrifice they made to better the world. I don’t know what kindergarten you attended, but it would be time to graduate, clean up your distorted knowledge on history. The Hungarian people are not there to serve you. You should serve them the way they deserve it Joseph F. Balogh PS. Turn to pages 2 and 8 for more information, it might help. Page 1
