MncxnRNEws Café Budapest Ball 2004 On March 21st 2004 the 51st Annual Pannónia Ball, AKA Café Budapest was held at the Long Shore Inn Country Club in Westport Connecticut. Those who are returning guests of the event were greeted with the familiar setting and faces, and of course by the Pannónia Hungarian-American Club's organizing board of directors. Master of ceremonies as for years now, was Dr. Balazs Somogyi , President Judit Balogh, and this year's Chairwoman, Eva Mikolai. The well-known Continental Orchestra provided music for the night. This ball along with being an elegant social gathering, is the single, most important fundraising event held by the "Pannónia". The funds collected from tickets and the "Silent auction" are used for our scholarship awards, and organizing programs throughout the year, to keep the Hungarian culture and traditions alive amongst our community members, and to try to reach out to the younger generations of Hungarian- Americans in the area. While this year's ball was a success in terms of the financial goals, we had to face the hardships of not being able to recruit Debutantes, for the always so charming Grand opening ... So for the first time ever the Pannónia Club's standing board of directors, escorted by their spouses and partners performed the first Waltz of the evening. Krisztina Sorfozo was the only one representing the debutant youths traditionally in the beautiful glimmering white gown... Although we didn't have teens, it's very encouraging that we had a lot of young people in their twenties who came and seemingly had a very good time at the ball.... So next year, on Marc 5th (save the date!) maybe you are the one, "dear reader", who brings new recruits, maybe your children, grandchildren and their friends to the company. We are glad to see new faces in our community and inviting everyone to participate in all our programs. Fresh, young energy is needed to carry on the torch that keeps the light and the fire going in the spirit of the Hungarian cultural traditions, all so important in our lives...We always need to remember who we are, where we came from, what we bring, and how we can participate in the further enrichment of our present culture... The next night of music and dance on Top: The elegant dining room. Above: Eva Mikolai, Chairlady. Right and below: A moment on the dance floor, and the joy of dining the program, is the "Hosszú, forro nyar" - "Long hot summer" dinner dance on Fairfield's Penfield Beach, on Friday July 16th from 7:30 pm 'til midnight. Casual attire. This program is back by popular demand, and hopefully it too will become an annual event for the future. So see you there!!!!!!!!!! Page 1
