THOSE WHO ACTED WITH AND GENEROSITY by Kálmán Aniszi The former Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and Dr. Alexander Havadtőy, retired minister, supervisor at Yale University and professor of Philosophy at Norwalk Community and Technical College, received the Julianus award at Csíkszereda, Transylvania, Romania. This high ethical award is given to those who had done the most for the Hungarians in Transylvania, the Chángó- Hungarians in Moldova and the Hungarians in Diaspora. The coveted Julianus award is named after Father Julianus, who in 1235 looked up the Hungarian tribes who returned from Pannónia to our ancestral homes in the Volga region. Today one third of the Hungarians live outside Hungary's borders following the outrageous treaty of Trianon. Almost two millions of them, the most valuable part of the nation, live in Transylvania, Romania. Alexander Havadtöy was minister of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairfield, Connecticut since 1960 until his retirement in 1993 and taught the art of preaching to the students of the Yale Divinity School for a quarter of century. Between 1967 and 1992, he preached regularly on the weekly Protestant Hour program of Radio Free Europe. Out of his sermons, delivered on the radio during his twenty five years, a very beautiful book was put together, "Comfort my people", last year. ...enchanted by the beauty of his homeland and surrounded by the love of the people, he preached in the filled to capacity Castle Church in Sepsiszentgyorgy (Saint George) and also in the overflowing Reformed Church in Csíkszereda (Miercurea Ciuc). Then he was invited to his home city, Kovászna (Covasna), where he preached in the Second Church, built by his father, and installed a boy scout troop, named after his father. The award winning minister spoke about the extremely good feeling experienced by the fact that the churches in Transylvania have not lost their drawing power and are filled Sunday after Sunday.
