In Fairfield, Connecticut at this time of the year four Hungarian men stop by at the Calvin United Church of Christ and play music. Their selection is high class classic and enjoyable to people of all walks of life. Their performance is applauded by the mostly Hungarian audience. They played Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dvorzsak and naturally Bartók. In this Hungarian church riding on the sound of the music the souls touch each other in this uplifting event. The four musicians, professors at the Franz Liszt Music Academy, Péter Komlós, Géza Hargitai, László Mező and Géza Németh are well known throughout the world, as students at the Academy in 1957 they formed the ensemble. First under the name Komlós Quartet. In Hungary the quartet twice was awarded the Kossuth Prize, and in the international competition at Liege they were the top winners. We in this small town deeply appreciate that the quartet whenever on a tour in America take their time and effort to stop by to show that they haven’t forgotten the Hungarians. Though the size of the community is getting smaller by the day, the spirit is still alive and we appreciate every help to keep it that way.
