Verses, stories and songs in Hungarian It has become a tradition at Calvin United Church of Christ, Fairfield, CT to hold a combined Worship Service in English and Hungarian each year on the fourth Sunday of Advent. Children, their parents and relatives, and members from our church as well as those from the local Hungarian community are invited to participate in the Worship Service and the Children's Christmas Program. Elizabeth Turrell and her daughter, Betty Ann Kocaba, helped the children dress up in costumes of Mary and Joseph, shepherds, kings, and angels before the Worship Service began. The beautifully decorated church welcomed the worshippers and the children who sat in the front pews. The congregation simultaneously sang traditional Christmas hymns in English and Hungarian including O come, all ye faithful, Hark, the herald angels sing, and Silent night accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Julianna Poznan. Members of the church's Youth Fellowship, Kristina Poznan and Attila Poznan, read the Christmas Story from the Bible in English. Rev. Béla Póznán proclaimed the good news of Christmas based on the text from Luke 2:8-14 in both languages giving attention to the young worshippers also. The children were excited to recite the poems they had learned. Andrea Finta recited 11 verses of the famous Hungarian Christmas hymn, "Az Istennek szent angyala" (The Holy AngeLof God). Agnes Farkas presented two poems, "Karácsonyi ének" (Christmas Song) and "Itt állok jászolod felett" (Here I Stand at Your Manger) and her brother, Mihály Farkas, gave the "Karácsonyi köszöntő" (Christmas Greeting). Daniel Árvái presented "Karácsonyi jókívánság" (Christmas Good Wishes) and Stanley Pongracz presented his Christmas poem. Nicolas Dostal surprised the audience by saying a child's prayer in Slovak which the pastor translated. The group of angels and kings was strengthened by Lorenzo Rocco, Nicole Burr, and William Grzywacz. Before the benediction, the congregation sang "Silent Night - Csendes éj." The Worship Service was followed by a reception where delicious pastries prepared by the ladies and the Calvin Brotherhood were served. The Calvin Hall club room was beautifully decorated by the assistant chief elder, Virginia Burr. Two gift packages were prepared for each child; one by the Pannónia Club, and the other by Calvin UCC church members Karolina Szabó, Elizabeth Turrell, and Virginia Burr and presented to the children. Highlights of the occasion were the harmonious singing of Christmas hymns and the joy of the children on the celebration of the Savior’s birth.
