Fairfield Remembers October 23 A HUNGARIAN MEMORIAL PLAQUE WAS DEDICATED 7b/? row: Facsimile of the plaque. On its left veiled with the fairfield Town flag. On its right after the unveiling with the flowers. Above the place of the ceremony In Fairfield Connecticut, on the Sunday afternoon following October 23 Hungarians celebrated. A patriotic event was designed and carried out by the Magyar Studies of America. Other Hungarian organizations joined in, and it was also supported by the community. The event was a dedication of a plaque that was placed into he beautiful park of the Town Hall. The celebration started with Zsuzsa Lengyel, President of the Magyar Studies.Here is her welcome speech: “As the president of Magyar Studies of America, I would like to welcome everybody, who are here this afternoon, and thank all those people who made possible the creation of this memorial plaque, either with their ideals, financial support or their skilled labor. I would also like to welcome and thank Péter Sárközy, the Assistant Consul General of the Republic of Hungary, coming from New York to join us in celebrating this solemn occasion. We are most grateful to Honorable Kenneth Flatto, First Selectman of Fairfield Town, for making it possible for us to suitably observe this historical event. The purpose of Magyar Studies of America, besides maintaining a Hungarian school, is to foster Hungarian national consciousness, to support the genuine ideals of independence and to take into consideration the historical necessities of administering justice. In the Fairfield and Bridgeport area, there has been a Hungarian presence for many generations; therefore we consider it very important to encourage cooperation and mutual assistance among the different Hungarian organizations in the area.
