Photos: Tibor Adamkovics The Organizing Committee proved to be very dedicated and creative this year again. Preparations had started in April; meetings, under the leadership of Dr. Olga Kaali and Ms. Klára Felsőbüki Nagy, were goal-oriented and consistently productive! These preparatory efforts-culminated in a sparkling, highly-praised and wellattended Gala Dinner-Dance on Saturday, September 27th. The evening got off to a good start; there was a palpably friendly "buzz" in the air during the reception. Over one hundred sixty people milled around and socialized. The "pogácsa" prepared by members and friends of the Hungarian Cultural Society of Connecticut was highly praised; large quantities of this "delicacy" were consumed quickly. Dr. Balazs B. Somogyi, president of HCSC greeted theparticipants. He introduced Dr.Olga Kaali and Ms.Felsőbüki Nagy: coxhair of the Gala. Dr. Kaali called attention to the numerous valuable items. All available for the silent auction. She emphasized education as one of the most important human ambitions, and expressed her satisfaction at participating in activities promoting the cause of Hungarian education in Transylvania and Trans-Carpathia. Prof. August Molnár, President of the American-Hungarian Foundation, Mr, László Hámos, President of the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation and his wife Zsuzsa, the Honorable Péter Sárközi Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Hungary and his wife Anikó were recognized and warmly received. The Honorable Ambassador Dr. Gábor Horváth Consul General of the Republic of Hungary brought greetings of the diplomatic corps, and promised to support HCSC in its fundraising activities. Dr. Balázs Somogyi MC Dr. Olga Kaáli Chairperson Ms. Monica Elling, of Monarchia Wines, Inc., called attention to the variety of Magyar wines made available to the American market by her company. The thematic framework of the function was built around the regional characteristics of Transdunabia, (Dunántúl) ,the Great Hungarian Plains (Alföld) and Northern Hungary (Felvidék). The menu reflected these regions appropriately: they were selected most carefully. The culinary pleasures commenced with a delicious Hungarian vegetable soup; selections of "Paprikás-csirke" from the Alföld Region, "Hal-fiié" from Bakony and "Disznósült Tökfőzelékkel" originating from Felvidék, followed. All entrees were carefully and deliciously prepared and all had met with high critical success. The dessert proved to be a winner again this year. Based on an original recipe and prepared under the supervision of Ms. Ella Szabó, "Rumos Gesztenyetorta" (Chestnut-torte with rum flavoring) was a highly acclaimed "finale." A musical program followed. Ms. Eva Latrányi, a promising young mezzo-soprano already highly acclaimed for her operatic performances in New York City, sang selections of Hungarian folksongs, and Magyar melodies. The supremely talented attractive young artist who, incidentally is quite wellknown in the Fairfield area, was very warmly received.
