Annual Picnic at the Calvin United Church of Christ, Fairfield, CT What you do when you want to have a good meal? You have to go to a Hungarian picnic. That is what 400+ people did on August 17th. The Calvin United Church of Christ in Fairfield held its annual picnic on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon. Thank the good Lord, after a rainy spring and summer, even the weather cooperated. The church members were working hard for days before the picnic. The man was setting up the tables and tents, the ladies were baking and cooking. The menu included some famous Hungarian food as stuffed cabbage, pork roast, kolbász, stuffed chicken, cabbage noodles and a ham dinner. Reverend Poznan out did himself with his delicious gulyás. The Mission Guild ladies prepared the stuffed cabbage under the supervision of Virginia Burr, assistant chief elder. Emmy Urszenyi cooked up the cabbage noodles, Zita Balogh prepared the ham dinner. Ohso-good stuffed chicken was a creation of Gizella Sedenszki. The cake table is always a big hit with all the home baked Hungarian pastries and cookies. We all enjoyed the music provided by Steven Sedenszki Jr. Besides having a special meal, it was nice to see so many old and new friends. We welcomed Ray Gilliam, our former chief elder, and his lovely wife, Juliette, who came from South Carolina, not only as guests, but to help also. We are thankful for all who came to this event. We were pleased to welcome our neighbors from Saint Emery's Roman Catholic Church along with Father Louis Pintye, United Church of Christ (North and Laurel Aves., Bridgeport), First United Church of Christ (Clinton Avenue, Bridgeport), Calvin Reformed Church of Norwalk, along with Reverend and Mrs. Leslie Martin, our friends from the Hungarian Club of Wallingford and friends and family from the greater Bridgeport area. Remember, this is a yearly event! Please join us again next year!
