László Fernwald and István Lakatos Tamás Wolff singing Éva Latrányi mezzo-soprano Fomwald (pianist), both highly regarded professional musicians played. László Charles Ihász Fomwald was the musical director of the Kolozsvár Theater for decadeds. He moved to the United States in 1996. He divides his time between being organist at the Protestant church in Passaic, plays at the Catherina Restaurant, and participates in the work at the Julliard in New York. He also is a sought after accompanist for singers and entertainers. Their selections were greatly received by the audience. Among them were the Valse Trieste by Ferenc Vécsey and "First love of Lavotta" (Lavotta első szerelme) by József Kossovits. They entertained with the famous Meditation from Massenet's opera "Thais" and played two Hungarian Dances by Johannes Brahms. Mr. Lakatos and Mr. Fornwald complemented each other admirably when performing an instrumental version of the popular aria "My country,my country.."( Hazám, hazám) from Ferenc Erkel's "Bánk Bán"; in addition, they played "There is only one little girl.." (Csak egy kislány..), in a beguilingly lyrical fashion. Popular songs from the time of the Revolutiony War of 1848-49, and Mr. Fomwald’s own composition "March 15th 2003" proved to be one of the musical highlights of the program. Their performance was warmly received. Zsuzsi Dömötör recited the closing poem, János Arany's justly famous ballad" The Bards of Wales" (Welszi Bárdok) with her accustomed talent and dedication. Mr. Fomwald played a selection of Franz Liszt's Fourteenth Hungarian Rhapsody, to popular acclaim. The formal part of the program was concluded by singing of the Magyar Himnusz (Hungarian Anthem.) A friendly, well-attended reception, featuring tasty Hungarian delicacies and assorted beverages followed. The Pannónia Club, its President and officers, in addition, the participants and performers are to be warmly congratulated their effort, dedication and the successful organizational work: the March 15th Celebration in Fairfield is an event to remember!
