This does not mean beautifying the person, which would be a falsification. I strive not to create an image or achieve only superficial technical effects, but also to ex­press inner feeling distiling the best without destroying their true personality and the warmth of living life. ABOUT THE ARTIST Gabriella Koszorus-Varsa, fine-artist, Master's Degree, Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary. After receiving her professor's diploma, she worked as an art-instructor and painted murals for the American University in Heidelberg Germany in 1947. She inherited her talent from her father Elemér Fülöp de Felsoeor a renowned sculptor, art professor and creator of famous monu­ments in the Capitol and in other cities in Hungary. In 1951 she immigrated to the United States with her late husband Ferenc Koszorús, Colonel in the General Staff of the Royal Hungaran Army and with her 4 year old son. In 1991 Col. Koszorús was post­humously promoted to the rank of Colonel-General by the Government of the Republic of Hungary. In 1977 Gabriella Koszorús married István S.Varsa, Consulting Engineer. She includes her previous name as her professional one. She is a versatile artist, specializing in figure-compositions and portraits. Occasionally she paints landscapes and still-lives.. Several compositions from American History have been done by her in pen and ink drawings as well as in large oil paintings. In 1976 she painted the portrait of Mrs. De Witt Clinton Ramsey for the order of the Smithsonian Institute’s Air and Space Museum. In addition to painting she studied sculpturing at the Academy of Fine Arts. In January, 1986 she completed a bas-relief of Dr. Robert Hutchings Goddard, “Father of Americain Rocketry” and his wife, Mrs. Goddard, also commissioned for the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C. Her life-size bust of Lajos Kossuth is in the Hungarian Embassy. Washington, D.C. The larger than life-size bust of Sándor Petőfi was commissioned by the City of Buffalo Arts Commission in 1992. She has exhibited nationally, including California, in Carnegie Hall, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.,also in Munich, Germany. PETER A.
