One never knows. Maybe you have seen this picture when you were looking through some of the old photographs your mother or grandmother left you. Through time pictures of weddings were always cherished, just like the one you see above. We received it from Becky Ivan Leach, West Virginia. She asked our help identifying members of the wedding. She writes Try again In the april issue we ran an article about old Hungarian newspapers that were available in this area. We showed a facimile of the one called BRIDGEPORT, and it was printed here in Bridgeport on Bostwick Avenue. Hoping that our readers will dig into the many boxes in their attic or other hiding places and swarm us with loads of historical findings. Well that was a bit optimistic, but we still haven’t given up. that the ceremony was likely at St. Stephen’s Church celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Madar. Analyzing the photo, our conclusion is that it was taken at a photo studio with a painted backdrop. The second couple from the left are Becky’s grandparents, Theresa Santa Ivan and Joseph Ivan. They are related locally to the Santa family and also to the Lesko family. This picture was taken around 1908-1909. It would be a great help if by chance you would recognize some participants comparing old photos, or maybe the studio with that elaborate backdrop. Please do not hesitate to call us and we will pass on your information or have you get in touch with Becky. The number is:203-377-0569. Specially now that we received a call from f§ Ed Mészáros from Stratford. He w< nt beyond our expectation. He gave us copies §| dating back to the first years of this centu- : iy. With these papers he also found a large size publication called Szabadság printed with the date December 25 1901. It has 72 1 pages using smaller type then the Magjai News, therefore containing a terrific § amount of information. It is about the past §§ and future of the American Hungarian people. I We say a special thanks to Ed Mészáros for §§ considering us and helping save some vc r\ significant memories of our past. Joseph F. Balogh || m PP/A/T/A/G & GPAPH/CS 203/377-6571 724 Honeyspot Rd.
