DIAQRAMS OF THE HOLY CROWN AND CORONATION CAPE Above: A diagram showing the lower, the Greek, part of the crown. On the top in the center is Christ on the throne, in the middle of the back an enamel image of Michael VII. Beneath him in the lower row is the big saphire stone and next to it is Géza I. Others in the row are saints and martyrs. All together there are eight images of persons. To the left: The upper, Latin, part of the crown. Here too, the center figure is Christ. In the border around him are twelve stones, showing the number of apostles. The pearls on this part of the crown number seventy two. This was the number of his disciples. There are only eight enameled plates of apostles which might indicate that in the process of adding it onto the original crown, four might had been left out. The ends of the bands were properly finished off showing no previous continuation of the bands. Below: The diagram of the coronation cape. In last year s May issue we tried show a picture of the cape. Unfortunately it is a very difficult reproduction to make. You might be able compare this diagram with that picture as you could see the image of Christ in it five times. Then there is a row of the apostles in proper order. The outside strip is the place for the martyrs, except for King Stephen and Oueen Gizelle, both in the center. MARTYRS APOSTLES Page 2
