Every year it is one of the most heart warming Hungarian event. Before Christmas the Pannónia Club takes on the hard, but awarding task to put children, most of them American bom Hungarians, onto the stage to perform a Christmas program. This happens with the use of the Hungarian language. There are people who don’t speak the language and at the end they make it known that they had a real good time watching the children who, each of them, steal the show on-and-on. The program in the Bessemer Center started with Sara Wolf Matolcsy, president of the Pannónia Club, greeting the audience. Rev. Thomas Karla, minister of the hosting United Church of Christ gave the invocation prayer. Then to the delight of everybody the children took over the stage. They played, recited poems, sang Christmas songs. They all came from Connecticut, and some attend the Hungarian School at the Calvin United Church of Christ. The stars were Krisztina Aranyi, Dora Fenyvesi, Aron Kovács, Gabriella Magyar, László Magyar, Maria Mate, András Mathe, Victoria Mathe, John Pemyeszi, Attila Poznan, Krisztina Poznan, Krisztina Sorfozo and Anthony Urszenyi. The music was provided by Julianna Poznan. The program was designed and directed by Julia Borsos. Thanks to all of them. Every year the Pannónia Club awards students who entered into higher education with a scholarship. These students are known to the Hungarian community because they participated in many events, worked, performed Hungarian music, recited poems, etc. They also show good marks in their academic studies. This year the recipients were Justin Margitay- Balogh, Mate Adamkovics, Gloria Rakaczki and Gabriella Hajdú. Following the scholarship ceremony, all the children, performers and from the audience were treated to a nice box filled with candy and other goodies. The grownups were also treated first with “szalon cukor” handed out by the children, then with a reception of the conventional hot dog, coffee, sodas and delicious Hungarian pastry. This wonderful event came to a close by a prayer and blessing given by Rev. Bela Poznan, Pastor of the Calvin United Church of Christ.
