72 children, it became an imminent time to look for a more spacious place. The Board of Education of Fairfield granted permission to use the old Holland Hill School for the Sunday School and also for church services. This sudden advancement inspired the church goers to stabilize their worshiping in Fairfield and during the summer they obtained a portable wooden chapel. The pastor of the First Hungarian Church, Rev. Alexander Ludman, had been looking after the spiritual needs of his own church and also of the Fairfield congregation. He also sent an invitation to Rev. Joseph Urban in Paczin, Zemplén Megye, Hungary. Rev. Urban and his family accepted the invitation and came to America. After all the arrangements were accomplished, on November 21, 1926, the Fairfield Magyar Reformed Church was granted it’s charter from the headquarters of the Reformed Church in the United States. Now, from 1964 with Rev Dr. Alexander Havadtoy, this church is known as the Calvin United Church of Christ and is located on Kings Highway in Fairfield, Connecticut. Over the years the following ministers were the pastors of the church. Rev. Joseph Urban, 1926-1935 Rev. Anthony Peter, 1935-1948 Rev. Alexander Babos, 1949-1960 Rev. Dr. Alexander Havadtoy, 1960-1993 Rev. Bela Poznan, 1994- present pastor The clergy supplied the congregation with both English (9:00 AM) and Hungarian (11:00 AM) Services every Sunday morning. We are proud of our congregation. All our members are caring and dedicated, with a strong faith in God. During our celebration of our 70-th Anniversary we will exhibit memorable photographs of the history of the church. We also thank our pastor, The Reverend Bela Poznan for his dedication and for the constant Christian love towards all of us. Most Sincerely, Elizabeth G. Turrell THINKING ABOUT BUYING OR SELLING?
