The Pannónia American Hungarian Club sponsored the 42nd annual Cafe Budapest Dinner Dance at the Longshore Inn. The previously dwindling attendance suddenly surged up, filled the tables and the dance floor. Many younger Hungarians joined the Clubs executive committee and their hard work paid off. Though Sara Balogh recently retired as president after the many years, her successor Sara Matolcsy proved to be the right person to be at the helm. Dr. Balazs Somogyi, Master of Ceremonies, started the evening by introducing Sara Matolcsy, president of the Pannónia Club. She greeted die guests underlining the importance of our Hungarian traditions Joseph Balogh escorted Eszter Odescalchi, Ball Chairman to the microphone. She welcomed the debutantes, escorts and guests to the wonderful event. Then Joseph Balogh asked her to give permission to the opening of the ball, which she graciously did. After, one-by-one the boys escorted the debutantes to the dance floor. The debutantes were: Beata Csatari, Alexandra Dallos, Trisha Horvath, Erika Kovács, Kelly Lyons, Jacklyn Maklari, and Melanie Matolcsy. The escorts were: Justin Maigitay-Balogh, Aron Liptak, Michael Sinko, Tamas Serfozo, David Szilagyi, Steven Vámosi, and Mark Venczel. Eszter Odescalchi took the first waltz with her escort, then the debutantes joined in. After the waltz and the csárdás the guests were invited. The Budapest Melodies orchestra kept people on their feet all night The midnight raffle drawing made some participants very happy with substantial prizes. Among them were a round-trip ticket on MALÉV airline to Hungary, a painting by the famous artist István Varga, and a case of the award winning BODVIN Tokay wine from Geza Bodnar. Everybody had a good time and it was a pleasant experience to see the young people in a traditional, conservative setting truly enjoying themselves, the music and the csárdás. (Photos by Fr. As we gave news of it, there are 53 handicapped athletes coming from Hungary to compete in the games. Based on a lottery, the foreign countries are paired up with local towns. In this lottery Naugatuck was the lucky town to be chosen to host the Hungarian team for the days before the Olympics. The members of the team cannot be housed at homes because of the language barrier and also the special care these chileien need. The Naugatuck committee, headed by Dean Tarsi, took on the obligation to raise $15,000 to cover the expenses. Our Hungarian community decided to help out in this effort The Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, with pastor Ft Dr. Andor Rakaczki, offered to give a Chicken Dinner on April 2, Sunday. They will not charge for the Hall, the cooking nor for the serving. Their contribution was topped with the ticket sale that their members Betty Mavrogianes, Betty 6 Fund raising dinner at Holy Trinity. Maturo and Goldie Terebesi made.
