MARCH 15 Olga Rethy program director, and to all the performers and the celebrating audience. He closed the event saying “Isten Áldjon Minden Magyart,” then extended an invitation to the reception. The Hungarian Committee of Norwalk also celebrated Hungarian Patriots’ Day in the parlor of the Hungarian Reformed Church. Both National Anthems were sung by the participants and the prayers were given by Ft. Burke and Ft. Balint. Mary Margaret Kocsis, president of the Committee greeted the people. She also introduced and honored Margaret Fekete Csóványos, poet and author of several books and served Hungarian events thorough her life. The chorus sang Kossuth songs and other patriotic ones. Peter Jancso performed the song Kis Lak All. The Nemzeti Dal was recited by Julius Kucsma The Guest speaker, Dr. László Csóványos, remembered the history of the 1848 Hungarian revolution. In all, as Mary Kocsis said, it is important for us to keep the Hungarian heritage alive. As usual, the celebration concluded with the reception serving delicious Hungarian Pastries. A highly successful function was held on March 19th, 1995, at the Wallingford Community Hall. Over one hundred members and guests attended a commemorative program celebrating the Revolution of 1848. Rev. Richard Diehl, the newly appointed minister of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Wallingford provided the invocation. Petofi’s Talpra Magyar was first recited by Mr. Csaba Ratkay; subsequently the eight-year-old Frank Kovács and the thirteen-year old Ibolya Krizsan gave memorable renditions of the same poem, in Hungarian. This may have been a historical first with three Talpra Magyars: the participation of two generations in reciting the poem, filled the audience with pride and optimism. Dr. Balazs Somogyi gave a short address in which he called attention to the goal of creating long overdue unity in Hungarian endeavors, and the obligation to take care of those in need among us. In an effort to provide support for the fund-raising activity of the Magvar Faluért Foundation , the participants initiated a collection drive and were able to raise cca. one-tenth of the cost of a tractor, to be sent to a Hungarian community in Transylvania. A tasty Hungarian meal and friendly companionship followed making the celebration a truly memorable one. Though it was a coincidence, but never the less it happened when the Hungarians were celebrating the March 15 holiday. As we all remember the Historic Society of Easton, with the leadership of Jerry Gabert, had a very successful Hungarian night with dinner, 2 Margaret Fekete Csóványos and Mary Kocsis with Knights of Columbus honorguards.
