TO COME TO AMERICA, PLAY THE LOTTERY In the previous issue we had an article sorting out who may have the rights to immigrate to America. The information in this article we received from Jackie Pelletier, Assistant Officer in Charge at the Immigration and Naturalization Services, is about a lottery system that makes it possible for others than immediate relatives to come here. The application period is short. It opens July 29 and closes August 28. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it public ahead of time because of our publication date, so it is up to you to get moving without losing any time. The application has to be in the post office box by midnight Friday, August 28. There are 31 countries, among them Hungary, that are identified as having been “adversely affected” by the 1965 immigration legislation. For three years natives of Hungary may participate in a visa lottery (AA-1) to immigrate to the USA. Those who register in time will be eligible for the random drawing of immigration visa processed for you. If you are accepted, your spouse and children will receive the same status automatically. Each person may submit only one application, but the spouse could file one on her behalf. As a matter of fact, it is not necessary for the applicant to send it in, any relative or lawyer or representative may do it. Nobody has to sign it, and there is no special form for it. Just use a piece of paper and put it into a #10 business envelope. You could do it for a relative or a friend. Balogh BUY YOUR OWN TREE IN HUNGARY It is a well known fact that Hungary is one of the worst polluted countries in the World. A way to correct the situation is to have more trees in the land to cleanse the air. The Foundation to Protect the Hungarian Environment, an organization with headquarters in Stamford and headed by Béla Lipták, took on the challenge. The Foundation will volunteer all the administrative work and expenses, so all your donations will benefit the program. The way the program works: The Foundation will recruit a student in Hungary, it will send you the name and address, and you send $25.00 to the student. He will buy the tree, tag it with your name and send a letter of its location, probably with a photo. At the end of the year the Foundation will award a student by random choice with $1,000.00 Besides all this there are many more benefits of the program. First of all it will raise awareness among the students in Hungary about their own environment. It will put them into action to better their country. It will give them the feeling of security by having friends in other countries lending a helping hand. Think about it. Maybe you have a need to show compassion and the willingness to reach out.
