IT SEEMED LIKE YESTERDAY They came by the hundreds, as they have done in the past, but this year was a milestone as we celebrated our 40th Hungarian Festival. Yes, the good and faithful, many of them attended our very first Hungarian Festival at the Ritz Ballroom in 1952. As usual the ladies and men in the congregation spent many tiresome hours preparing for the festive celebration. The menu consisted of Hungarian dishes, like the ones our parents and grandparents prepared for us. The ever famous Chicken Paprikas, Stuffed Cabbage served with Drotos’ famous kolbász, and Roast Beef were the hit of the day. Let us not forget the pastries and noodles made by our wonderful ladies. Also many thanks to the younger generation for their support and participation. It was inspiring to see the ladies dressed in Hungarian costumes attending the booths for embroidery, arts and crafts, white elephants, raffle, and pastry. Starting with our first festival, Rozsika played the violin every year. For many years with her husband, László, and recently with Ethel Egry accompanying on the piano. The children were entertained by the funny and exciting “Beepers the Clown.” This was followed by a group of young and delightful Hungarian dancers from New Jersey. Later the audience joined in a Hungarian sing along, the music of our parents and grandparents, with Rozsika. It was a great hit. How can we turn the clock back 40 years to our very first Hungarian Festival and once again feel the excitement that prevailed? My friends, it’s still here, the willingness and dedication to perpetuate the Hungarian Heritage is still here and Thank Gad it’s still going strong; the excitement never left us. Yes my friends, that was forty years ago. Most of us were 30 and 40 years young, full of vitality, determined to make our first festival the best in the land, and it’s still going strong. Nothing has really changed. Yes, we’ve lost many of our dear friends along the way, it is for them, our children, parents and grandparents that we dedicate and continue to look forward to this yearly reunion. Our Congregation would once again like to thank those of you who have supported us in making our Hungarian Festival the success its been over these many years. May God Bless you all for coming and sharing this festive 40th Hungarian Festival. See You Next Year, Chief Elder Louis J. Babycos Surprisingly Affordable 3) Stratford Athletic.Club 140 Watson Bvld.
